Guila Muir Wins Accolades

Guila's article, All Presenting is Persuasive, was highlighted as one of five Year's Best in the December 2006 Link & Learn e-newsletter from Linkage Incorporated.

Presenters: Why is Eye Contact Important?

Achim Nowak, a famous presentation skills coach, has this to say:

Eye contact forces me to get real. It jolts me out of the rut of the canned speech, because the minute I make eye contact, I have to let in what the other person is sending. Interest. Enthusiasm. Boredom. Confusion. His or her reaction suddenly informs, in ways I won't always control, the next thing I say and the way I say it. Eye contact turns every presentation into a dynamic exchange: New. Fresh. Alive.?

(Power Speaking, 2004)

Create a HOOK and Win a Prize!

Send Guila your idea for using the following activity. The winner will receive a fabulous prize (a grain of salt here, please) and get his or her name in the next newsletter!

Against the Grain

Hold up a piece of newspaper. Tear it slowly from top to bottom. Then tear it slowly side to side. One tear should be clean and smooth, and the other very jagged and uneven. Why is it easy to tear the paper one way but not the other? (From Wizbangers:101 Quick, Action-Based Learning Activities for Speakers, Trainers, and Teachers, by Deb Calderon and Ken Bellemare, 2006)

Design Training In-House

Do you have a training need that "off the shelf" curricula just can't fill? Are you left cold by trainers who know nothing of your organization's unique needs? Guila Muir's rapid training design process, called "Keep In-House Training Excellent" (KITE) has enabled many diverse businesses to build training sessions using the expertise they already have.

"Using KITE, we developed seven training sessions incredibly fast, and much more cheaply, than we could have any other way!"
Barbara Courtney, Artist Trust

Find out if your organization could use KITE!
